About Us - The Dog Squad
Get to know us and discover our passion for dog training
The Dog Squad was born out of a deep love and understanding of dogs, but also passion and dedication in training them. Our journey started with our own experiences in training our much loved pets and helping any other dogs we could along the way. We came together sharing the same mindset, goals and desire to help dogs, becoming best friends and a great work team in the process.
We have years of hands-on experience, working with a range of dogs with different behavioural and training needs. We have learnt that effective training can transform not only the lives of dogs, but also the lives of their families.
We spent two years shadowing Brad from Somersetk9services and are forever grateful for the opportunity and all the fun along the way. We have attended Working Dog Trials, Tracking Workshops and we are Canine Emergency Care and First Aid Qualified. We recently had the most fun learning bite sports at a Decoy Training weekend with the amazing Catharina De Leeuw, who came all the way from Holland to teach.
As Ivan often says 'Dog training is a never ending process of evolving' and we still find ourselves eager to keep learning and always want to better ourselves as trainers so that we can continue our work helping dogs.
"I'm James and have always been fortunate to grow up around dogs in the family. When I hit 18 I saved up enough money and bought my very own first dog, he was a collie cross labrador called Owen. We went everywhere together and he is what got me into dog training. I was able to teach him so many tricks in the home, aswell as riding out with me on the horses. When I started farm work I managed through sheer luck to teach him to work the sheep.
Over the next 20years I started to help more dogs and attending dog training/agility classes. I've mainly stuck with working breeds collies, labradors, terriers, miniature Dachshunds as they very much fit my lifestyle. It wasn't until I got my New Zealand Huntaway that Duke and I attended my first ever Working Trial/Tracking Workshop, which then opened up a whole new world for me. We achieved our Level 1 with UKTDA and came 3rd on our first ever Working Dog Trial.
Summer of 2022 I took over teaching obedience to a large class whilst also gaining further experience from another dog trainer. He introduced me to his protection/sport dogs and that completely moved the goal post for me. I now feel that my path is very clear for myself and Duke.
Dog training isn't just a job or a hobby for me, it's a lifestyle and a way of living. I always feel very privileged about being able to work with dogs, making a difference in not only their lives but their owners. I'm inspired with all aspects of dog training and there is always something more to learn."
'I'm Georgia and my obsession with dogs arrived at a very young age, when my mum couldn't get me away from the dogs outside school. I was lucky enough to grow up with a Jack russell, a dalmatian and a border terrier. Now at 31 I currently have four dogs of my own. Two miniature poodles, a lurcher X and a Presa/Shepherd mixed breed who I adopted from Tenerife. Ballou is my second rescue dog and has not come without his challenges, all that we have overcome through time, relationship and training. I fell in love with dog training and the bond you build through it. Dogs are and have always been a huge part of my life, I couldn't be without them.
Ballou is the dog who set me on this path and I'll be forever grateful we found each other. I was lucky enough to help run the obedience class along side James and shadow Somersetk9services, learning more and gaining further experience while we started working with more dogs. Daphne my lurcher X came into the picture and allowed me to put all my training and knowledge into raising her as a well trained dog.
I am fascinated by dog behaviour and love when we can help those difficult dogs that many trainers wouldn't want to work with. I really enjoy teaching obedience and working with unwanted behaviours, but have recently discovered the buzz from dog sports which I can't wait to dive more into.
As one of of the most amazing animals we are blessed to have on our planet, I believe in loving dogs the right way and to respect and treat them as such, bringing out the very best potential in our canine companions.'
